This trend continues through December, then drops off significantly in January and remains relatively level until the next autumn.Popcorn Around the WorldWorld popcorn demand is on the rise! According to FASonline, United States popcorn exports have risen from $26 million in 2004 to $86 million in 2008. If the January to August 2009 trend continues, exports of popcorn could top $100 million for 2009.Mexico is the leading importer of popcorn, buying over $15 million dollars worth of popcorn in 2008. $6 million dollars worth went to Russia. Japan and South Korea each bought over five million dollars worth of popcorn in 2008. But, most surprising, was the United Arab Emirates importing the same amount of popcorn as China! They each bought over $3 million of popcorn in 2008. I never knew the UAE took snacking so seriously!
