Review Criteria
The following will be measured in order to score each microwave popcorn brand and flavor, Flavoring – Does the variety taste the way the consumer expects it to? Is there a balance of flavoring, saltiness and the corn’s natural taste? Tenderness – Tender popcorn is PRIMO! Pop-ability – Does the variety pop a full bag with few old maids? Saltiness – Popcorn needs salt, but more salt doesn’t always mean a better taste experience. We’ve found that some companies use salt to mask flavorless corn or lack of quality flavoring ingredients. Hull Content – Overall hull density and hull debris in the popped corn. Calories – This is a combination of the popcorn and fat/oil content. As the popcorn has set nutritional data, this is an overall health indicator. A 5 is the average of all brands in the category. Fat Content – Primarily monounsaturated fats are acceptable Saturated Fat Content – Bad fat equals bad review Trans Fat Content – Bad fat equals bad review Natural – The closer to organic the better the score will be. A 10 is organic on this scale. Great Popcorn Taste – This is subjective, but after eating this much popcorn, we know taste!
